Friday Evening – June 5th



6:00  -  7:15

Pot Luck Supper  RAIN OR SHINE - if it is clear - side yard of Carlin Hall - 5711 4th St S. - 

Bring plenty of food to share.  Beverages, plates and eating utensils provided.

Don’t forget a lawn chair or blanket. 

(If it is raining we will be at St. John’s church basement  - 5th & S. Lexington).

Block Party – Outdoor dance  (S. Kensington between 3rd & 4th  by the Library)  -

We have three bands this year. 
We will open with
The Box, followed by Quarter Mexican, and then Big Thunder.

Information on the bands is below.


Bring your favorite CDs for music between sets.

Don’t forget to bring a chair, snacks and some beverages to share. 

Sno-cones will be available for $0.50. 
The County block party permit does not allow alcohol.

The Box

The Box is a group of Arlington High School students who have a passion for rock & roll. They are returning for their fifth year.  They have played venues ranging from the 9:30 Club in DC to the McLean Day festival in McLean. This is their 6th year playing at the Glencarlyn Block Party.


Big Thunder

Big Thunder is a pop rock band comprised of 10 to 12 year olds that formed in 2012 at the Bach2Rock music school in McLean.  Glencarlyn resident Ethan Drake features on drums. Big Thunder has performed around the DC area at the Fillmore, Hard Rock Cafe, Jammin Java, and Clare & Don's Beach shack. This is their second year playing at the Glencarlyn Block Party.


Quarter Mexican

Quarter Mexican is a collaboration by three founding (now retired!) members of Arlington music scene local legend Gonzo's Nose and includes Glencarlynite Jon Discount.  QM has been performing in the Washington, D.C. area since 2007.  They play a variety of popular cover music from the '80, '90s and beyond. 


They provided music for the block party in 2010, 2012, 2013 and 2014.  Their photos from GCA Day 2013

(4th Street between Lexington and Kensington is closed from 10 am - 3 pm)

Pancake Breakfast    RAIN OR SHINE

Picnic Shelter in park – at the bottom of the hill at the  3rd and Harrison Street entrance to the park.

Come visit with your neighbors and enjoy a delicious breakfast of pancakes (regular or blueberry) and sausage, coffee or juice for $5 a person or $15 for families.


A Park Naturalist from Long Branch Nature Center will have animals from 9-10 am

Historic Ball Sellers House - Open House RAIN or SHINE

5620 3rd St. S  - Stop by for a colonial snack and beverage and a tour of the oldest house in the County (circa 1742). See the new exhibits.  Everything is free.  Link to Arlington Historical Society Ball Sellers House

Hot Dog Roast

It just wouldn’t be Glencarlyn Day without having grilled hot dogs with all the fixin’s at St. John's. They will have cold beverages too!

Pupusas and Lemonade Cristo Rey will be preparing home made pupusas - (stuffed corn tortillas)

Both on the grounds of St John's - 4th St. near Lexington

Glencarlyn Parade

The theme for the parade is "Mardi Gras - Viking Dragon" our lead float was Glencarlyn’s entry in this year’s Arlington Mardi Gras Parade.  Viking or Mardi Gras attire and accessories the thing.

Parade Bike & Float Ornamentation

Colored streamers will be available for decorating your stroller, bike, trike, wagon, or even your pet on a leash.  Lexington between 4th & 5th

Glencarlyn Day Parade

The parade begins moving promptly at 11:45 -

and features a "Mardi Gras - Viking Dragon" float, lots of kids of all ages, a fire truck, police cars.

Parade Route –Staging on Lexington between 4th & 5th   -   Lexington to 3rd   -  3rd to Jefferson   -  Jefferson to 5th   -  5th to Kensington    -    to Carlin Hall

Carlin Hall Fun Fair   RAIN or SHINE

Carlin Hall grounds (5711 4th St. S.) - 

Activities for young children including a moonbounce, games with prizes, tattoos, and a bake sale of delicious desserts. 

There will also be a raffle with lot so exciting prizes including a Spaghetti Dinner at Arlington Firehouse Station #2, Gift certificates to Best Buns, Lost Dog, JW Tumbles and more!

Community Garden Tours & Plant Sale

In the Community Garden behind the Library (3rd & S. Kensington). 

Tours by Master Gardeners of the various gardens including native plants, those used for cooking, for fragrance or beauty of their flowers or foliage. 

"Garden notecards" and some plants will be on sale.

We will have several houses on the tour.  See you flyer delivered to your home, get a list at the pancake breakfast or at Carlin Hall during the Fun Fair.
