Friday Evening – June 3th

 

 

6:30  -  7:15

Pot Luck Supper  If it is clear - side yard of Carlin Hall - 5711 4th St S. - 

Bring plenty of food to share.  Beverages, plates and eating utensils provided.

Don’t forget a lawn chair or blanket.

Our musical entertainment will be Quarter Mexican.

Bring a chair and snacks and beverages to share and CD of music you would like to hear between sets.
** Sno-cones will be available for $0.50 **  The County block party permit does not allow alcohol.

Quarter Mexican

Quarter Mexican is a collaboration by three founding (now retired!) members of Arlington music scene local legend Gonzo's Nose and includes Glencarlynite Jon Discount.  QM has been performing in the Washington, D.C. area since 2007.  They play a variety of popular cover music from the '80, '90s and beyond. 

 

They delighted the crowd at the block party in 2010, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015 and 2016.  Their photos from GCA Day 2016

Saturday, June 4th  
(4th Street between Lexington and Kensington is closed from 11 am - 3 pm)

Pancake Breakfast    RAIN OR SHINE

Picnic Shelter in park – at the bottom of the hill at the  3rd and Harrison Street entrance to the park.

Come visit with your neighbors and enjoy a delicious breakfast of pancakes (regular or blueberry) and sausage, coffee or juice for $5 a person or $15 for families.

 

A Park Naturalist from Long Branch Nature Center will have animals from 9-10 am

 

Remember to bring money for:

· Glencarlyn Citizens' Association Dues $15 (July 2017 - June 2018).

· Glencarlyn Tee-shirts, Polo shirts or totes  - (limited size selection)

Library Open House  RAIN OR SHINE

Library Open House – Join in the “Building Glencarlyn Neighborhood Coloring Page by Coloring Page” an activity kicking off the summer reading program; see the displays of historic Glencarlyn material.  There will be some coloring pages designed for the event and patrons can either color those or draw their own house.  We will then attach the pictures to a larger sheet of paper and display them at the library. (300 Kensington)

Hot Dog Roast

It just wouldn’t be Glencarlyn Day without having grilled hot dogs with all the fixin’s at St. John's. They will have cold beverages too!

Pupusas and Beverages

Cristo Rey will be serving Central American food including pupusas (stuffed corn tortillas), as well as lemonade and Horchata!  

Both on the grounds of St John's - 4th St. near Lexington

Glencarlyn Parade

The theme for the parade is “Tropical Island Adventures” so

break out those colorful costumes, sun hats, and other island paraphernalia and join in the fun!

  

 

11:15 - 11:45*

 

Parade Bike & Float Ornamentation

Colored streamers will be available for decorating your stroller, bike, trike, wagon, or even your pet on a leash.  Children of all ages welcome.  Lexington between 4th & 5th 

11:45 – 12:15*

 

Glencarlyn Day Parade

The parade begins moving promptly at 11:45 -

and features a lots of kids of all ages, a fire truck, police cars.

Parade Route –Staging on Lexington between 4th & 5th   -   Lexington to 3rd   -  3rd to Jefferson   -  Jefferson to 5th   -  5th to Kensington    -    to Carlin Hall

12:00 –3:00*

 

Moon Bounce and Sno-cones

Carlin Hall grounds (5711 4th St. S.) -  (sorry no Fun Fair this year)

Sno-cones will be available for $0.50  --  Moon Bounce is also $0.50

Community Garden Tours & Plant Sale

In the Community Garden behind the Library (3rd & S. Kensington). 

Tours by Master Gardeners of the various gardens including native plants, those used for cooking, for fragrance or beauty of their flowers or foliage. 

"Garden notecards" and some plants will be on sale.

1:00 - 4:00*

Historic Ball Sellers House RAIN or SHINE  (5620 3rd St. S.) 

Stop by for a tour of the oldest building in the County (circa 1742).  See the new exhibits. Ball-Sellers House volunteers will again be walking in the parade in costume 

Free lemonade and cookies.

2:00 - 4:00 

 

Glencarlyn House Tour RAIN or SHINE

There are 5 homes on the tour: Paul and Doris Cutler’s creation of single floor living -- Linda and Donald King’s 1929 home -- Lori Lowe’s 1929 Sears bungalow with renovations -- Taryn Parry's brick English Cottage styled house — Jon Discount and sons’ large lego model of Glencarlyn village.  

Check for a map and list of homes on that tour at the potluck supper, block party, pancake breakfast or Carlin Hall after the parade.

5:30 - 6:30*

Rain Date Pot Luck Supper  - side yard of Carlin Hall - 5711 4th St S. -  Bring plenty of food to share.  Beverages, plates and eating utensils provided by GCA. Don’t forget a lawn chair or blanket.  (If it’s raining we will be in the basement of St. John’s Church 5th St entrance).
