Updates on 601 S. Carlin Springs Demolition
As of April 28, 2023
Upcoming Trainings in the Parking Lot: The Arlington County Fire Department will be using the 601 S. Carlin Springs lot for training May 15 – 20 from 8 a.m. – 3 p.m. Six cars will be set up for the deployment of a vehicle fire blanket and no loud noises are expected during the training. Additionally, the Arlington County Police Department will be using the lot on May 18 for training from 4 p.m. – 6 p.m. During this time, neighbors can expect to see as many as six motorcycles on the lot and may hear some noise from the motors. For any questions, please contact Alyson Jordan Tomaszewski, Public Engagement Specialist, at ajordan-tomaszewski@arlingtonva.us.
Tree Planting: Last week, under guidance of Arlington County’s Urban Forestry team, white flags were placed around the perimeter of the 601 S. Carlin Springs property to mark the approved planting locations for approximately 130 new trees. Weather permitting, planting of the trees will begin on Saturday, April 29, and will continue into the first week of May. A few trees will be planted in late May. When demolition is complete, a mix of native grass with grain rye (approximately 60% native / 40% rye) will be planted across the rest of the site. Please visit our project webpage to view a copy of the landscaping summary document to see the types of new trees and where they will be planted or contact Valerie Maislin, Facilities Design & Construction Project Manager, at vmaislin@arlingtonva.us.
